New Year Resolution

I don’t usually go in for New Year’s resolutions. Typically I think that if there’s a change that’s worth doing, I had better start doing it now.

And so I find myself at the end of January realising that over the last few months keeping this website up to date has dropped off the radar, so for once I am making my New Year’s resolution somewhat late: to make sure I regularly update this blog and add to the calendar. Thankfully I’m not the person who adds the reflections and liturgy to the website.

After such a long time I had quite forgotten what the backend of websites look like and, naturally, there had been updates and changes. It’s a whole new language to learn, or at least relearn. There will also be challenges in how I organise my week and month to make sure I can keep up my resolution.

However, challenges are what stretch and grow us. The psychologist Csikszentmihalyi talks about “flow” or the just right level of challenge. If we have too little challenge, we experience boredom. If we have too much, we are stressed. Either way, it is time to do something about the level of challenge we are experiencing.

As you progress through 2026, may you experience that “just right” challenge so you can grow and develop through the coming year.
